MADRID (Reuters) – Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 7-3 Friday in the United States as part of their preparations for the new season.
Atletico Madrid had a good start in the game. This is the first Madrid derby to take place off the European continent with four goals in the first half-hour.
Diego Costa opened the scoring for Atletico in the first minute of the match, which allowed him to score a Super Hattrick before being ejected in the 65th minute.
Atletico Madrid strengthened their lead by scoring six goals in the first 51 minutes, before Nacio responded to Real's first goal in the 59th minute.
Atletico Madrid ended the first period with Costa's five own goals (1, 4 and 5) in the first minutes, 28 and 45 minutes, Joao Felix and Angel Korea in the eighth and 19th minutes.
In the second half, Costa added his fourth goal to Atletico in the 51st minute, then scored Real Madrid's first goal in the 59th minute. Victor Machin Perez Vittolo added the seventh goal of Atletico in the 70th minute.
Real Madrid then narrowed the gap by scoring two late goals by Karim Benzema and Javier Hernandez in the 85th and 89th minutes.
