The fruits of the apple are famous for their beneficial effects on health. Some experts say that they often refrain from consulting a doctor (or at least proverbs).
Now, scientists say that the benefits of apples lie in the diversity of bacteria that pbad into the human gut, where an apple contains about 100 million bacteria.
Bacteria in the stomach and intestines, called microbiomes, vary among humans, where they are closely related to public health and various diseases.
Having a wide range of bacteria is a sign of good health, and those in the "meat" of the apple can be a useful stimulant.
Researchers at Graz University of Technology in Austria examined bacteria found in apples purchased at a store and in fresh organic apples. They examined the "meat", the seeds, the crust and the pulp with the badysis of the bacteria.
Professor Gabriel Berg said: "When calculating the average of each apple component, it is estimated that a typical apple (240 grams) contains about 100 million bacteria.
It is thought that about 90 million of these bacteria are present in the seeds, which means that we only have 10 million bacteria in an apple.
The study found that organic apples contained different types of bacteria, suggesting that they were healthier. Organic elements contain higher amounts of specific bacterial groups known to be healthy for humans, such as probiotic lactobacilli.
Previous studies have shown that intestinal microbiology is related to the health of vital organs, including the heart and brain.
Consuming a wide range of foods, including many fruits and vegetables, is considered the best way to increase the diversity of bacteria, fungi and other microbes in the intestines.
The study was published in Frontiers in Microbiology.
