Earth has survived mbadive destruction almost as close to an asteroid that approached it last week with unprecedented speed, surprising scientists.
The asteroid, which some have called the "city killer," pbaded near the Earth at a speed of about 54,000 km / hour and last Thursday, just 45,000 km, according to NASA .
The asteroid has the size of a big rock and is only visible for a few days.
Alan Duffy, professor of astronomy, told the Sydney Morning Herald that "it could have caused an explosion more than 30 times more than the atomic explosion of Hiroshima".
Astronomers acknowledged that they were surprised by the arrival of the asteroid as it came from the direction of the sun.
Scientists estimate at around 20,000 the number of asteroids close to the Earth, one of which appeared in 2013 in the skies of Russia, causing injuries to 1,600 people.
