Security forces at the Barcelona airport on Tuesday announced the presence of explosives in the cars of Argentine star Lionel Messi and his Uruguayan colleague Luis Suarez, according to reports in the Spanish press.
"Security forces at the airport of El Prat conducted an urgent and accurate search of the two cars of the Catalan contingent after being informed of the presence of explosives in the interior" said Mundo Deportivo, quoted by Fox Sports.
The newspaper reported that Messi and Suarez had parked their car in the parking lot of Barcelona's "El Prat" airport, before traveling together to Ibiza for a short vacation.
Security forces used trained dogs to detect explosives in players' cars, but later discovered that the communication was false.
Messi will spend his holidays with his family and the family of Suarez in the Spanish city of Ibiza before the start of the new season.
Suarez is expected to resume training Catalan giants Wednesday, while Messi will join them on 4 August.
Messi and Suarez returned to Ibiza with Cesc Fabregas, their former colleague in Barcelona, and Jordi Alba during the holidays. They attended a concert despite rumors of a "chip" and a person 's quarrel, but they denied it.
