The trader was imprisoned for eight days and charged with money laundering, while the smugglers were released while admitting it was not their first operation!

Both employees told Harragli that they were under arrest for attempting to smuggle gold, though they told investigators that they were saying what they had to say because the gold was well known and that they had documents to prove it from the Turkish customs.

It should be noted that the transfer of gold must be made after prior notification, in accordance with the decision of the High Customs Council, or declared through the "red runway" at the airport of Beirut (the greenway crossed by arrivals that have no goods to declare). According to the information, Harajali's employees were not allowed to drive either of the two lanes, as they were stopped near the site of the receipts.

A customs source confirmed to Al-Akhbar that gold is "a commodity prone to a draw when the red line crosses and is declared, and such restraint is allowed only if it is restricted , prohibited or monopolized ". He added that "when entering amounts of gold, it is a customs violation and not a criminal offense … In the worst case, the violation of Manifest and not a criminal offense requires arrest ".
