The Nikkei's average fell on Friday in the pursuit of US equities, which closed lower after a sudden rebound after their initial gains, after US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on China.

The Nikkei fell 1.53% to 21211.06 points, while the broader index Topix lost 1.44% to 1 544.79 points.

Trump announced Thursday that it would impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods worth $ 300 billion.

As a result of this decision, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the day down 280.65 points, an increase of 1.04%, to 2,653.62 points, while the Standard & Index Poor's 500 <.SPX> was down 26.82 points, or 0.90%, to end informally at 2,953.56.

The NASDAQ Composite Index closed down 64.30 points, or 0.79%, to 8,111.12 points.

Trump's decision also impacted the oil and gold markets as oil prices fell by more than 8%, while gold prices rose.
