A survey showed that US consumer confidence had stabilized in July, with optimism over personal finances offsetting fluctuations in the Washington-Beijing trade dispute.
The University of Michigan survey found that the consumer confidence index was at 98.4, slightly higher than last year, at 98.2 in June.
Analysts polled by Reuters expected a final reading in July of 98.5.
