Thousands of people with a common hereditary disorder should receive daily aspirin to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, health officials said.
People with Lynch syndrome are at increased risk of getting the deadly disease. But a major study has shown that the likelihood of developing the disease could be reduced by taking aspirin daily for two years, despite the prohibition of "indirect" treatment by the NHS, in a desperate attempt to Save money.
LS syndrome is badociated with colorectal or intestinal cancer, as well as uterine lining, skin and brain.
Bowel Cancer UK has welcomed the guidelines, which recommend that patients with LS take aspirin, which has proven to offer a typical benefit that can protect cancer patients.
Lynch syndrome is pbaded on to family members if one of the parents carries a genetic mutation of the disease, with a 50% chance of inheriting the mutation for other people.
Currently, LS patients undergo periodic colonoscopy to identify cells that may become malignant tumors.
Lynch syndrome affects about 1.17 million Americans, or about 4% of the 140,000 new cases of colorectal cancer in the United States.
