(Reuters) – China's Ching Saisai has qualified for the San Jose final after another surprise win Saturday night in California, to maintain its hopes of winning its first title.
World number 55 beat seventh seed Maria Sakari 7-6 6-2 in the semi-finals, one day after defeating fourth seed Amanda Anisimova.
In the final, Ching will meet Arena Spalinka, seeded second, after the Belarusian defeated Dona Vickić 6-4, 6-3 in the return leg of the semifinal.
Spalinka, world number 10, will be the favorite to defeat Ching, even if the Chinese player won the only previous clash.
