(Reuters) – Nick Kiriyos beat Russian Daniel Medvedev in two sets and won the Washington Open on Sunday.
Australia, 7-6, 7-6, beat Medvedev, fourth seed, to win his sixth title. Kiriyos did not have the guts to lose his shot and sent 18 badists, including two with the final.
Kairios, who combined the backstroke shots and shots in front of the net, scored 4-1 in the first set to win the tiebreaker, and then a split between the two groups seemed to help relieve back pain that he had clearly felt.
