Google will host an auction for other search providers in the EU

After authorizing Google to provide Android users in the European Union the opportunity to choose other search and browser applications, the company decided to set up an auction in order to Identify the qualified search engines. The top three bidders will appear alongside Google when setting up all Android phones and tablets starting in 2020.

Once the user has chosen a search engine, it automatically becomes the default search engine in the phone's operating system and even in the Google Chrome browser. Users will still be able to modify the default search engine at any time after the first installation process.

This decision was a direct response to the € 4.3 billion fine related to the anti-trust sanctions imposed on Google by the European Commission a year ago, while it was accused of "cracking down" on the European Union's "anti-trust" lawsuit. Having imposed its search engine and Google Chrome browser on users by making it virtualized on all Android devices. In April, Google launched a solution to remind users that they could change default search engine and browser on Google Play.

According to Google, the choice of the bidding process is "a fair and objective way of identifying the search providers that will feature in the selection screen". The bidding process will be detailed in a publication on the company's official blog for search engines from all countries.

Participating search engines offer the minimum price you want to pay each time the user chooses his product in the selection screen. The auction will take place country by country and the deadline for submission of tenders is 13 September 2019.

The main requirement for accessing the auction is that the vendors support search in the local language through user interface lists in the country for which they are applying. Google ensures that all auction information, including companies offering offers and proposals, remains confidential.
