19 people killed in an explosion due to a car collision in central Cairo

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced Monday that 19 people had been killed and 30 wounded, including a critical case, in a car accident near a reputed medical institute in central Cairo.

Earlier, the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior had explained in a statement that the accident resulted from the collision with a car that was traveling in the opposite direction near the Institute of Oncology (Cairo center), of three other cars, which resulted in an explosion following the collision.

She added that the incident "resulted in the death and injury of several citizens, was transferred to the hospital for treatment and started legal proceedings".

"The number of victims of the oncology incident rose to 19, 30 were injured and a bag of shrapnel was found," said Monday the Ministry of Health in a third release.

He pointed out that there were 3 to 4 critical cases between the wounded cases.

The remainder of the injuries ranged from simple to moderate fractures, as well as cases of varying degrees of burns and skin wounds in different parts of the body, according to the same source.

Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed said in a televised interview that 42 ambulances had been moved immediately after the accident.

She explained in a television interview with a special Egyptian satellite channel: "The presence of 32 wounded, including very serious".

She then called for the "lifting of 17 bodies (dead) from the scene of the accident and to a bag of shrapnel," predicts the absence of new victims.

Egyptian health announced in its first statement on the preliminary badessment that "the death of 16 citizens and 21 wounded in the accident of oncology".

According to a statement from the Cairo University, which oversees the medical institute, the incident occurred near the administrative building, away from the patients' rooms, showing the damaged facades of the institute.
