The Syrian team survived the loss to their Yemeni counterpart (1-1) in their match against Iraq on Monday in the second round of the Western Asian Championship.
Yemeni striker Mohsen Qarawi scored his country's goal in the second minute of the second period.
Syrian substitute Firas Al Khatib responded to the equalizer in the 61st minute of the match at the Karbala stadium in Iraq.
After the draw, both teams scored their first points of the tournament after the loss to Lebanon (1-2) and Yemen against Palestine (0-1) in the first round of the competition.
Syria is fourth in the group A table with an orphan point, followed by Yemen in fifth place with a goal difference.
Iraq is leading the group with 6 points, three points ahead of Lebanon and Palestine, who share second and third places.
