Rogers Cup: Russian Medvedev shocked Tim and Nadal continue their campaign to defend his title
Daniel Medvedev and Karen Kachanov crushed Austria's Dominic Tim and German Alexander Zverev to set a date for a purely Russian showdown in the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
The Spanish Rafael Nadal, seeded in the tournament, made a bad start by beating the Italian Fabio Funini 2 to 6, 6-1, 6-2, continuing the campaign to defend his title.
The Spaniard will meet in the semifinals with the winner against fellow countryman Roberto Bautista and Frenchman Gael Monfils.
Medvedev, backed by a crowd, finished the second favorite, Tim, beating him in less than an hour, 6-3, 6-1.
The other Russian Khashanov effortlessly beat the third seed, Zverev, with two straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3.
