Professor Abbas Sharaqi, professor of geology and water resources at Cairo University, said that 80% of Arab countries were below the poverty line.

He added that there are only 4 out of 24 Arab countries whose water share exceeds 1,000 cubic meters of water, pointing out that water resources are almost constant and that their population is increasing. Health is a wealth that must be exploited and recycled to benefit agriculture in the current stability of water resources.

The professor of geology and water resources of the University of Cairo pointed out that 85% of freshwater is used in agriculture, despite its economic profitability which he described as "weak", underlining the need to direct water resources towards uses of greater economic value.
