Huawei has unveiled its own operating system, HarmonyOS, which the Chinese giant can use to run its smart devices as a practical alternative to the Android system.
Huawei has been under heavy pressure from US trade restrictions, which have questioned the company's ability to use Google's Android system in the long run.
Currently, Huawei is using the Android system to run its smartphones and other devices, but has acknowledged that it is developing its operating system as a "B" plan.
At the company's developer conference in South China, Huawei announced that HarmonyOS would be used for the first time in the new Honor phone, a subsidiary of the company, which will be announced by "Huawei" on Saturday, August 10th.
President and CEO Richard Yu said the new operating system could be used in phones, computers and tablets, including smart watches.
However, Yu said that the "priority" of the Chinese company was to continue using Android on all its devices, even if it can be easily switched to the Harmony system at any time, if necessary.
Yu also revealed that the new software will be open, which means that it will be available to other people to install as a driver for their devices.
The director of Huawei said the company wanted the operating system to be global and "non-exclusive to Huawei".
Huawei has not yet revealed more details about its operating system, including the original content and applications, which will be part of it when it launches.
The company said it has been developing the program for more than two years, but its importance became urgent only earlier this year. (RT)
