Russia's Daniel Medvedev continued his career in the ATP rankings and finished eighth after reaching the final of the Canadian Masters, before losing to Spanish champion Rafael Nadal.

Medvedev, 23, earned his best ranking by climbing from one spot to eighth, less than a month after entering the top ten for the first time in his career.

Nadal retained second place after retaining the title and 1,000 points won last season. He remained behind the Serb Novak Djokovic, refusing to surrender to his rival Roger Federer, third.
