Facebook's Instagram photo sharing site has announced the addition of a feature that allows users to report messages they deem to be false in order to prevent misleading information and other violations from appearing on their platform.
Facebook does not prohibit the publication of false information in any of its social networking services, but takes steps to limit its spread and warns users.
Facebook has 54 survey partners working in 24 languages, but the Instagram program will only be available in the United States.
"It's a preliminary step as we work on a more global approach to fighting misinformation," said Facebook spokeswoman Stephanie Otway.
