Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Five months after the announcement, the Apple credit card can be used, but not for everyone.
Apple said Tuesday it randomly selected a limited number of thousands of people who showed interest in acquiring a credit card as soon as it was issued. According to the company, they will receive an invitation to use the card before it is available to all eligible people later this month.
The Apple Card is an Apple brand credit card issued by MasterCard Goldman Sachs, available only to iPhone users. The card works like any other credit card, which can be used as a physical card in all usual places or as a digital card registered in the payment service of the company, "Apple Pay".
In an interview with CNN, Apple said Goldman Sachs would monitor customers' data and transactions, noting that the bank would not misuse this data and sell it to third parties. The new physical map can help fill some gaps at Apple, at retailers who do not accept Apple Pay.
Apple, which announced its credit card in March, will also reimburse 3% of the money spent on Apple products to users, including the iPhone and the company's software subscriptions, as part of a rewards, and 2% for any purchase made by Apple Pay. And 1% on all other purchases.
The physical map will be optional for users, but will be available free of charge to those who subscribe to the service. The shape of the card shows the usual patterns in white titanium Apple with the Apple logo on the top left. The design of the card is more beautiful than that of standard credit cards and no number is displayed.
Users will be able to activate the map by tapping the iPhone, where the device will receive a notification and direct the user to the configuration process.
The card comes at a time when Apple's sales have dropped significantly, after the iPhone has ceased to account for the majority of the company's revenue. The company is looking to diversify its products by launching new services such as the Apple Arcade subscription service and the Apple News Plus subscription.
