The company owned by Facebook has tested the service on more than one million people last year, but has suspended its commercial launch pending regulatory approval.
The new payment service "will facilitate the sending of money to Watasab by sending a message," said Will Cathcart, global president of the company, in a statement.
"We are excited to offer this service to our users throughout India this year."
India will be the first country to exploit Watsab for its payment service, but Cathcart has not revealed whether the Indian authorities had given their final approval.
"This service is needed to accelerate integration into the Indian financial system and bring more people to the rapidly growing digital economy," he said.
India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with tens of millions of people using the Internet for their financial transactions.
The new service will compete with Watsab since the launch of other digital payment services, including GooglePay and Amazon Bay.
