Market research firm IHS Markit unveiled a new report on the folding of smartphones. According to the report, shipments of smartphones equipped with folding screens will reach 50 million units in 2024. Given that two companies have announced this year their first foldable smartphones, these estimates seem quite reasonable.
This technology is not yet developed and we have not seen many companies adopt OLEDs yet. Make no mistake, the market share of OLED screens is growing and it's starting to make its way into the medium and low-cost smartphone sector. Although smartphone shipments have decreased, the number of OLED compatible devices has not decreased. In fact, OLED smartphones should see a 30% increase in the next quarter.
