World Health Organization: access to two new drugs to treat Ebola
The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed Tuesday that tests of two new drugs were proving very effective in treating Ebola in Congo.
The drugs, REGN-EP3 and MAB 114, have been tested on 600 people in eastern Congo, where the Ebola virus has been plaguing since the end of last year, said the WHO. About 90% of those who have received early treatment can survive.
"This is positive news, but it will not stop Ebola alone," said Christian Lindmeier, spokesman for the organization.
Patients who received early care had a better chance of survival, he said. They will continue to encourage patients to receive treatment as soon as possible. "
