(Reuters) – Sergio Aguero scored three goals to allow Manchester City to impose 3-1 at home against Arsenal on Sunday and return to second place in the English Premier League, two points behind leader Liverpool.
The win will increase pressure on Liverpool, which is in West Ham United on Monday, and the Jurgen Club has 61, 59 for City and 57 for Tottenham Hotspur.
City dominated the match with a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half and Arsenal goaltender Bernd Lino saved many chances as his team did not score goal in the second half.
Pep Guardiola's team needed a positive reaction after a surprise defeat against Newcastle United on Tuesday and in the first minute the nerves of its fans calmed down.
Aguero needed 48 seconds to open the scoring with a header after Emeric Laporte grabbed Alex Ayoubi's ball and sent a recessed center.
City took control, but Arsenal equalized in the 11th minute when Nacho Monreal hit the ball after Lucas Torreira's corner to join defender Laurent Cosnelny who put it at close range.
But while Kevin De Bruin put all his injury problems behind his back and made him shine, Bernardo Silva did not seem impressed by the equalizer.
Aguero opened the net at the end of the first half after a pbad from Rahim Sterling, who got a good pbad from Elkay Gundogan.
The striker ended the three-year period with another pbad from Sterling, but the Argentine striker slipped to pbad and seemed to touch the ball with his arm, which the player admitted after watching the replay of the match on television.
"I thought I'd touch it with my chest but after watching it on TV, I thought it was a touch of the hand.
"I'm very happy, it's important to score and win … It's important to fight each game, now we have to think about Everton on Wednesday because it will be a tough fight."
It's the tenth time that Aguero scores a hat trick in the Premier League, a record that Alain Shearer has outperformed 11 times.
The Argentinian striker has scored 20 goals in all competitions so far, his sixth consecutive season in which he has reached balance.
