Greek Stephanos Titpas beat Frenchman Benoit Bear 7-5 6-0 on Friday night to qualify for the semifinal of the Washington Open. Tetipas beat Australian Nick Kiriris in the semifinals. The French lost his composure in the third game of the second set when Tetipas, the seeded number 1, stopped the match to tie the shoes. Benoît told the referee that his Greek rival was wasting time and said that he usually had Tetipas, who had stopped playing because of problems with the shoe during his last two matches.

After resuming the game and Benoa having lost focus, the Frenchman claimed to have problems with his shoes and sat in his seat but received no warning from the referee. Benoit did not regain his balance after the fight and Tetipas won easily.

Kirios scored 19 rebounds and took less than an hour to defeat Slovakia's Norbert Gomboch 6-3 6-3 and Tetipas will face the first time.
Russia's third seeded Daniel Medvedev, who defeated Marin Celic (6-4, 7-6), will face Germany's Peter Jojevic, who beat Kyle Edmund 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 quarterfinal.

On the women's side, Kathy McNally beat fourth seed Su-Wei Hsieh 6-4 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of her first WTA Tour.
