"The lack of warning shows how fast asteroids are moving on our planet," said Michael Brown of Monash University. Fortunately, the asteroid, which was about 39 meters wide, posed no threat to the Earth, traveling about 73,000 kilometers from our planet.
Cnet reports that Sonear surveys in Brazil were the first place to monitor asteroids.
The US space agency NASA is currently developing the asteroid re-test, called DART, which will attempt to redirect asteroids before touching the ground.
The project hopes to use a private spacecraft and launch the test in the summer of 2021.
