The United Arab Emirates team drew 1-1 with Bahrain on Saturday at Sheikh Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi during the opening match of the 2019 Asian Cup.
Substitute Ahmed Khalil scored late in the match to give the draw "white" in an exciting game of Group A.
After a delightful opening ceremony, the United Arab Emirates were on the brink of a surprise defeat against 33,000 spectators before Khalil scored points in the 88th minute after handball against substitute Mohamed Marhoun.
Striker Mohammed Al Rumaihi, entered the starting line to replace Abdullah Yousif's injury return, gave Bahrain the advantage in the 78th minute after a rebound by Khalid Issa.
The United Arab Emirates will play their next match against India in Abu Dhabi while Bahrain will play against Thailand in Dubai on Jan. 10.
