Activists on social networking sites posted a photo showing that the American University had issued a decree requiring its students to pay their down payments and housing allowance, as well as other costs in dollars instead of the Lebanese pound.
"We received with great concern and regret the decision of the AUB administration to transfer all down payments, student housing and other expenses from the Lebanese pound to the US dollar," said the secular club on its Facebook page: "We very much hope that all representatives of the State, optimistic about the future of the financial situation and the crisis, warn at the same time of this type of measures, designed to weigh financial risks on the shoulders of students, especially in light of the country's delicate financial situation.
In fact, we call on the university to reconsider this unjustified decision, especially since all the costs paid by the university, including the basic part of the salaries, are expressed in Lebanese pounds, in addition to parents' income, making it a potential victim of any development of the financial crisis. Menu.
We call on all openness and positive management of the University to calmly discuss this decision with the students, insisting on the need to suspend the application of this decision until the conclusion of the discussions with the students and ready for any serious dialogue in this regard.
This news has confused activists, fearing some of the movement's antecedents. Some have evoked the scenario of the collapse of the lira, believing that the American university was protecting itself in a similar scenario.
