New Motherboard Report Reveals Business Microsoft allows external contractors to review some of the voice recordings collected through Skype's Machine Translation feature and its Cortana voice badistant.
Vendors and their employees can access these voice examples, which do not include user or device identifiers, through a secure portal controlled by Microsoft.
A spokesman for the company issued a statement giving details of the operation without explicit confirmation or rejection of the human examination.
"We strive to be transparent about the collection and use of voice data to ensure that customers are able to make an informed choice when and how their voice data is being used.
The automatic translation feature of Skype and Cortana allows users to agree to participate in the collection and use of voice data.
The company allows users to view and delete voice data badociated with their Microsoft account via a privacy dashboard.
Skype calls are saved when using the AI-based machine translation feature, launched in 2015, for the application.
