UEFA has announced the list of candidates for the title of best player of the year on the continent.
The selection included three players: Argentina's Lionel Messi of Barcelona, Juventus's Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, Italian and Virgil van Dyke of the Netherlands, the center back of Liverpool.
UEFA will announce the winner on 29 August in the UEFA Champions League group draw.
It is likely that Van Dyck won the award, having largely contributed to Liverpool's victory in the Champions League last season and to the competition for the English Premier League title, noting that he had won the title of the best player in the league.
Croatian Luka Modric holds the trophy, winning last season after facing Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, eliminated from the short list this season.
