Radwan Mortada wrote in the newspaper "Al Akhbar": At Beirut Airport, customs officers seized gold quantities during two separate operations. A trans-shipment of 38 kilograms of a yellow metal was arranged in favor of a jeweler, in exchange for seizing eight kilograms when two people tried to smuggle it. The trader was imprisoned for eight days and charged with money laundering, while the smugglers were released while admitting it was not their first operation!

Hussein Harragli, a member of the Beirut Gold Dealers Syndicate, knew that an "ambush" at Beirut airport would make him jail for eight days before being left behind by the Mount Judge. Lebanon Bbadam al-Hajj, after a fine of 100 million lire as a result of a prosecutor's complaint. General Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghada Aoun, talks about money laundering. Haragli was one of three people arrested by customs at Beirut airport following a shipment of 38 kilograms of gold from Turkey to Jordan via Lebanon. According to the information, as soon as the plane on which Hajarli was staying and a young man and a woman working with him landed, a customs officer came to ask him to accompany him. Both employees told Harragli that they were under arrest for attempting to smuggle gold, though they told investigators that they were saying what they had to say because the gold was well known and that they had documents to prove it from the Turkish customs.

It should be noted that the transfer of gold must be made after prior notification, in accordance with the decision of the High Customs Council, or declared through the "red runway" at the airport of Beirut (the greenway crossed by arrivals that have no goods to declare). According to the information, Harajali's employees were not allowed to drive either of the two lanes, as they were stopped near the site of the receipts.

A customs source confirmed to Al-Akhbar that gold is "a commodity prone to a draw when the red line crosses and is declared, and such restraint is allowed only if it is restricted , prohibited or monopolized ". He added that "when entering amounts of gold, it is a customs violation and not a criminal offense … In the worst case, the violation of Manifest and not a criminal offense requires arrest ".
