The family of the late Palestinian artist Kamal Balata issued a statement on his right and the right to bury his body in his city of Jerusalem. If the Israeli occupation authorities do not allow it, he will be buried in Berlin.

The declaration reads as follows:

“ As you know, our beloved Kamal Yusuf Balata was born in Jerusalem in 1942 and set off for heavenly glory on Transfiguration Day on August 6, 2019, a feast that has always made sense in his paintings. "When he started learning to draw icons when he was a child in Bab al-Khalil neighborhood in Jerusalem, his work took his place among the greatest artists in the world.

We await the response of the Israeli occupation authorities regarding our right to bury his body in Jerusalem, between his family and his relatives, at Mount Sion Orthodox Cemetery.

If we do not realize this right, which was one of his desires, in the dust of his city where he saw light and painted in all its forms, his body will be buried in the city of Berlin, where he lived the last seven years of his life, his creativity and his love.

In this case, the funeral prayer for his own comfort will take place at 10:30 on August 15 at "St. Georgian Antiochian Orthodox Church" in Berlin, then at the Wilmersdorf cemetery.
