City wins Community Shield title after beating Liverpool on penalties

(Reuters) – Manchester City won the Community Shield for Football after a 5-4 win over Liverpool on penalties and a 1-1 draw at Wembley on Sunday.

Former Liverpool striker Rahim Sterling took advantage in the 12th minute and substitute defender Joel Matip equalized with a header in the 77th minute.

The goal frame came from two attempts by Mohammed Salah and Virgil Van Dick, two Liverpool players, in the second half as Stirling hit the ball at Al Qaim.

City defender Kyle Walker saved a ball from the line at the last minute of time lost after a header from Salah.

City scored five shots on goal, but Giorinho Villendem of Liverpool was left out.
