LONDON (Reuters) – Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny will finish nine years in North London to join Bordeaux in an undisclosed deal, the Premier League club said on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old French midfielder, who has joined Arsenal from Lorient, made 350 appearances for the club and won the FA Cup in 2014, 2015 and 2017.
Financial details are not disclosed, but the British media announced that Bordeaux would pay up to five million pounds to Koscielny, who was also the target of Olympique Lyon.
"Laurent Koscielny leaves to join Bordeaux," said Arsenal in a statement posted on its website. We thank Laurent for his contributions to the club and wish him good luck for the future. "
Koscielny, who had another year on the contract, refused to travel with the team on his US tour in preparation for the new season, which angered the club.
His departure is a blow to coach Unai Emery, who needs to strengthen his defense while Arsenal is looking for a better position than fifth place won last season.
According to the British press, Arsenal would like to sign Dayot Obamikano (Leipzig) and Daniele Rojani (Juventus).
Arsenal will start the new season at Newcastle United on Sunday.
