CSKA inflicts biggest European defeat at Real Madrid at home

MADRID (Reuters) – Real Madrid were the victim of the heaviest home defeat after Spain's 3-0 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday at Bernabeu.

Despite a historic victory, the Russian team is part of the group and could not qualify for the European Championships after defeating Victoria Plzen in third place with a 2-1 win over Rome.

Vedder Chalov CSKA beat the European champions of the last three seasons with a surprise shot in the 37th minute and Georgi Sheenikov doubled the lead of the match two minutes before the break with a direct shot.

Arnor Segordson of Iceland added the third goal with a low shot in the 73rd minute, while angry fans were offended.

CSKA repeated its victory over Real in this group after a 1-0 win in Moscow in October when coach Yulen Loptege led Real.

CSKA have won only two victories this season against the European champions 13 times, but they are leading the standings with seven points in a row with Plzen.

Real Madrid has 12 points and nine points for second place.

Real coach Santiago Solari made seven changes to Wesca's 1-0 defeat in the Primera Liga on Sunday, while winger Venecius Jr. and defender Javi Sanchez gave their first appearance in the Champions League.
