The president of the Syrian Football Federation (FFA), Mohamed Fadi Dabbas, announced that the United Arab Emirates would be the country's Syrian men's team for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and the FIFA World Cup. Asia 2023.

The president of the federation said the stadiums would be chosen later, highlighting the large Syrian community of the UAE, which would play an important role in supporting the team as well as all the Syrian supporters from the country and from abroad.
The first (virtual) match of Syria will take place on October 10, when they meet with the Maldives.
Syria is part of Group A with China, the Philippines, Guam and the Maldives.
