Economic growth in the euro zone slows in the second quarter

DirectEconomic growth in the euro area slowed in the second quarter of this year on a quarterly and annual basis.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of the euro area grew by 1.1% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2019, compared with 1.2% in the first quarter, Wednesday's data revealed. # 39; Eurostat.

According to badysts' forecasts, the euro zone posted economic growth of 0.2% in the three months of June on a quarterly basis, compared to 0.4% for the period January-March.

Meanwhile, the eurozone employment rate slowed to stand at 0.2% from April to June, after 0.4% in the first quarter.

Economic data also revealed that euro area industrial production fell 1.6% in June from June, following a 0.8% rise in May.

Year-on-year, euro area industrial output fell 2.6% in June.
