The planet, called GJ 357 d, orbits a star about 31 light-years away in a so-called habitable area, a region far from its star so as not to be too hot but close enough to not get too cold.

It may also contain liquid water, but further research is needed to determine if the atmosphere of the GJ 357 j is sufficiently dense and warm to accommodate liquid water.
The discovery comes just days after the discovery of three new planets in the star system, 73 light years from Earth.
