The state of emergency in the state of Washington, Washington, due to the measles epidemic and injuries of more than twenty people, mainly children.
The United States declared eradication in 2000, but post-outbreak cases were badociated with cases of infection and non-vaccination against the disease.
"Measles is very contagious and can be deadly for young children," said Washington Governor Guy Inzley in a statement. Confirming the existence of more than 26 confirmed cases in Washington State, which would have created a serious risk to public health, could spread to other regions.
The outbreak began near Portland early in the year and quickly spread to nearby Clark and Keng counties, both located in the state of Washington.
Health officials urged those affected not to visit schools, churches, doctors' clinics, shops and the airport.
