RAMALLAH – According to a new report from Motherboard, Microsoft will allow its subcontractors to review some of the voice recordings collected via Skype's machine translation feature and its voice badistant, Cortana.
The company limits access to voice data to authorized providers, which is required to maintain confidentiality, comply with applicable laws, and accept confidentiality requirements.
Vendors and their employees can access these audio samples, which do not include a user or device identifier, through a secure portal controlled by Microsoft.
A spokesman for the company issued a statement giving details of the operation without explicit confirmation or rejection of the human examination. The spokesman said: Microsoft is collecting voice data to provide and improve possible services for voice, such as search, voice commands, spelling, or translation services.
"We strive to be transparent about the collection and use of voice data to ensure that customers are able to make an informed choice when and how their voice data is being used." Microsoft then gets permission from its customers before collecting and using them. "
