Fabio Capello, coach of Juventus, AC Milan and Real Madrid, called Monday's Serie A players to protest and sit on the pitch if supporters scream racist slogans during a match .

Italian football is struggling to stop the racist behavior of fans. The problem reappeared when Senegalese defender Calido Coulibaly was chanted during a match against Inter Milan in San Siro last month.

Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti said his team would leave the stadium if Coulibaly's racist songs were repeated, prompting a debate over whether clubs should act alone in such situations.

Inter Milan was suspended for the next two home games and Coulibaly was suspended for two games after being expelled late in the match, criticizing the punishment of the victim as much as the culprit.

Ancelotti recalled Coulibale's nerves as a result of the ill-treatment he suffered from the fans during the match.

"Players have to sit on the pitch and should not be punished," Capello said in an interview with the official RAI television channel.

"This will help the mbades who wish to watch football and like to force the other mbades who shout racist slogans and imitate the sound of animals to stop and be ashamed of what they do."

Capello, who also trained England and Russia during his long training, added that fanatical fans had a lot of influence in Italian football.

"Italy is the only place that gives these fanatical fans freedom in the stands, and the players will greet them," he said.

"Some 85 to 90 percent of Italian fans are important, not young men who raise banners, sing slogans and give too much influence to their clubs," said the 72-year-old.
