The Rennes fan, Neymar da Silva, has been sued by Rennes, according to sports reports in France.
The lawyer, Philippe Owayon, told the French newspaper L'Equipe that his client, who was not identified, had decided to take legal action as a result of a disagreement between a member of Neymar's entourage and the victim.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker was banned from playing three games for criticizing a fan after his team's defeat in the Coupe de France final in April.
After Rennes beat Paris St Germain 6-5 on penalties after drawing 2-2 in the final at the Stade de France, Neymar reacted angrily to the man who filmed and verbally provoked the players. They climbed the steps to win medals.
