Belgium finished top of the FIFA rankings on Thursday, one point ahead of their top-ranked French counterpart, Russia, who scored the most points this year.
"Belgium will start in 2019 at the top of the FIFA ranking, keeping the only point that separates them from France at the top of the ranking," said the group in a statement released Thursday. Belgium was third in the 2018 World Cup after beating England 2-0 in third place. The Belgian team lost in the semi-final against France 0-1, winning the final in the final of Croatia 4-2 and winning the title for the second time in its history.
The Federation pointed out that "the incredible year" presented by the gliders (the title of the France team) will not pbad without recognition, because the world champions are the best (annual) with a number of points (165) since December 2017, more than any other ranked country. The International Federation noted that teams from Uruguay and Kosovo had also made remarkable progress this year. The first won 151 points, ranking seventh in the world, against 133 points for the second, ranked 13th. The Kosovo team made the biggest improvement in the ranking (mattresses), advancing 46 compared to the same period last year, ahead of Kuwait, which had risen by 31 positions (158) and El Salvador (30 to 70). European football continues to dominate the top spots with eight of the top ten places on the continent and 31 of the top 50.
As for the Arab teams, there has been a slight change in the progress of the Sultanate, which has become the 82nd place in the world, at the expense of Zambia. Tunisia is ranked first in the Arab world (26th in the world), second in Africa, followed by Morocco (third in Africa and 40th in the world). For its part, Lebanon ranked 81st in the world, down slightly.
The ranking has changed little since the previous version, published November 29, 2018, Brazil remaining in third place, ahead of the fourth Croatia and the fifth England.
Here are the top 10 teams: 1 – Belgium 1727 points 2 – France 1726 points, 3 – Brazil 1676 points, 4 – Croatia 1634 points, 5 – England 1631 points, 6 – Portugal 1614 points, 7 – Uruguay 1609 points, Switzerland 1599 points, 9 – Spain 1591 points, 10 – Denmark 1589 points.
