Former Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan has announced his retirement for 40 years because of his inability to play.
"I decided to stop playing professional football," said former player Atletico Madrid and Manchester United in a television interview.
"I was suggested to keep playing, I apologized, but I'm no longer competitive and it's a bit difficult," said the player, who ended his career with Kitchee in Hong Kong and announced his international retirement in 2015.
Forlan scored 36 goals out of 112 internationals, the team's third-leading scorer after Sweden's Luis Suarez (58 goals) and Edinson Cavani, Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer (48).
He was named best player of the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010, where he was also the top scorer with the Germans Thomas Muller, the Dutchman Wesley Snyder and the Spanish David Villa, with five goals each.
He also participated in the 2002 World Cup in South Korea, Japan and 2014 in Brazil, and also won the Copa America in 2011.
His last international match was the final of the World Cup in Brazil, when Uruguay sank 2-0 against Colombia.
Forlan traveled to the best European clubs, playing Manchester United (win in 2003), Villarreal, Atletico Madrid (with the latter winner of the European League in 2010) and Inter.
In recent years, the colors of Brazilian Internacional, Japanese Cerezo Osaka, Penyarol, the city of Mumbai in India and finally Kitchie.
