India beat Thailand 4-1 in the first round of Group A of the 2018 Asian Cup Sunday at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Sunil Chitri (27, penalty 46), Anerod Thapa (68), Gigi Lalibekloa (81) and the Indian group Thirasil Dangda (33).
In the same group, Bahrain, host of the United Arab Emirates, played a 1-1 draw in Abu Dhabi. After two Thai chances, India opened the scoring after a shot on goal by defender Thirathun Poonmathan. But Thailand equalized after Dangda took a free kick around the net.
India recovered in the second half thanks to Chitri, who won the first two of the tournament (46), followed by Thapa (68) and replacing Gigi IV with a perfect shot (81).
