Greek league leaders announced a strike on Thursday to protest an attack on Wednesday in front of their home in Larissa. "As a sign of solidarity with our colleague, we will abstain from doing business until further notice," the referees of the League of First Division announced in a statement. The international referee, Thanasis Tzilos, was badaulted by four people as he was leaving his home in Larissa, in the center of the country, on Wednesday night. The sentence was brought to the hospital and he left Thursday with head and leg injuries that required stitches. "He condemned the cowardly badault on our colleague Thanasis Tzilos and the repeated attacks on the leaders, and we will not allow these people to continue to intimidate us."
The Greek Football Federation, the League, clubs and government officials have condemned the attack against the 33-year-old referee, who works as a civil engineer.
