The matches of the preliminary round will be played from 2 to 10 September.

In total, 14 teams qualified for the group stage and 26 teams were eliminated from the preliminary round to form 10 teams, each made up of 4 teams, according to the FIFA rankings.
The top 10 teams will be split into two halves according to FIFA rankings and a draw for two home-and-away matches to determine the 5 qualifications for the 2022 World Cup.
