NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – A new study shows that children who spend too much time on television, computers and smartphones do not develop the same motor skills as their counterparts who spend less time in front of screens.

The study revealed that they lost the time that they could devote to games that would help them learn.

The children participating in the study spent an average of 17 hours per week in front of screens when they had two hours and 25 hours a week at the age of three. This goes well beyond the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics, with only one hour per day in front of control screens, so that young people spend enough time playing and communicating with their caregivers and peers .

The study, published in the magazine Gamma, concerns 2441 mothers in Canada and answers questions about how much their children spend watching television, movies, videos, video games, computer screens, tablet PCs and other devices like smart phones.
