MADRID (Reuters) – Malcolm, a former Barcelona player who has just moved into Zenit, was exposed to racism during his first meeting with the Russian team, the Spanish newspaper SA reported.
Malcolm took the lead of the Zenit match against Krasnodar in the fourth round of the Russian league.
After the Brazilian entered the stadium in the 72nd minute, several Zenit fans raised a racist sign against the player.
"Thanks to the Zenit leaders for their commitment to the club's tradition," says the panel. The sign recalls the Zenit tradition of not hiring colored players.
The club's supporters asked the club not to contract with the colored players on the grounds that it was a tradition and not a racist tradition.
This is not the first of its kind: Similar racist banners were raised when Zenit signed with colorful actors such as Brian Idao, Axel and Halk.
