Drugs commonly used to treat certain physical health problems, such as high blood pressure, may have obvious benefits for people with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, according to a study by the University of Toronto. University of London.
The study, published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, included health data from approximately 14,269 patients in Sweden, focusing on those who used 3 drugs: a methylated glyceryl A inhibitor, which reduces the risk of cholesterol , heart disease, L, used to reduce high blood pressure, or a pigmented compound to treat diabetes.
The researchers evaluated the self-mutilation and psychotherapy of patients during and without treatment, and showed a decrease in self-injury in patients with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia during treatment.
The study indicates that all these drugs affect the central nervous system, but that the underlying mechanism for this purpose seems incomprehensible, which requires additional studies to develop a new drug for these mental illnesses.
The study indicates that these drugs are treated with a license and that they are safe, commonly used and inexpensive.
