Japan yesterday witnessed its first solar eclipse in 2019. It was the first in Tokyo for three years. Japan's NHK said the moon had partially blocked it.
The moon blocked about 40% of the sun in the northern city of Sapporo, while it blocked only 30% in Tokyo. According to the agency, residents gathered to watch the phenomenon after wearing eye protection goggles.
The Japanese population will be able to see another solar eclipse on Dec. 26, said the General Astronomical Observatory.
